Virginia Beach is an independent city located in the Hampton Roads metropolitan area of Virginia, on the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. Although Fairfax County is the most populous jurisdiction, Virginia Beach is the most populous city in Virginia and the 42nd largest city in the United States, with an estimated population of 440,415 in 2008.
Virginia Beach is the easternmost of the Seven Cities of Hampton Roads that make up the core of the Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News, VA-NC MSA. This area, known as "America's First Region", also includes the independent cities of Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Suffolk, as well as other smaller cities, counties and towns of Hampton Roads.

Virginia Beach is a resort city with miles of beaches and hundreds of hotels, motels, and restaurants along its oceanfront. Every year the city hosts the East Coast Surfing Championships as well as the North American Sand Soccer Championship, a beach soccer tournament. It is also home to several state parks, several long-protected beach areas, three military bases, a number of large corporations, two universities, and numerous historic sites. Near the point where the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean meet, Cape Henry was the site of the first landing of the English colonists, who eventually settled in Jamestown, on April 26, 1607.

The city is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as having the longest pleasure beach in the world. It is located at the southern end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, the longest bridge-tunnel complex in the world. “Own Your Legacy”

“Through dedication in creating experiences you build a legacy that will last well beyond your years and change the lives of those to follow in your footsteps. Today, your journey of footsteps begin by the vision to “Own Your Legacy”. Owning your legacy is a choice not a destiny, it's the vision brought to reality as you create your path in life solely to benefit future generations, something you may never see come to fruition. Just like Martial Arts Instructors planting the seed of knowledge, knowing they may never live to see its fruits, a legacy is a gift you leave behind without expecting anything in return. Don’t be a victim in life… don’t be a target… believe in it, create it, and “Own Your Legacy”.
-Senior Master T. L. Thomas

Just like that ATA Songahm seed that develops in many stages on its path to a mature tree, legacies don't arrive as a destiny and they don't magically appear by accident. They're deliberately designed and artfully crafted over years of hard work and dedication as Eternal Grand Master H. U. Lee has done with the ATA. Eternal Grand Master’s “Dreams and Vision” of the ATA are nothing but pure dedication, hard work and above all, uniquely designed through stages within his life to create his personal legacy for all of us as ATA Instructors to carry on.

Understanding Your Legacy –
Initially, we all need to have a firm martial arts grasp on why we need a legacy.

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you lived. This is to have succeeded. "
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Legacy Leavers –
They’re all around us… some are easy to see while others slightly hidden for the seekers in life
.
In observation of our lives we can see legacy leavers throughout history. From the founding Grand Master, Eternal Grand Master Haeng Ung Lee to our parents, Songahm instructors, teachers and elder family members we can see the diverse group of legacy leavers. Everyone has left an invisible trail of instructions on how to live, for better or for worse the life lesson is there for those that look, not so invisible after all. Now it's your turn to decide what kind of legacy you'll leave for posterity after your end of days. What will your legacy be in the minds of those that follow? How many people “Legacy Leavers” have you learned from and how many have positively changed your life?

Focus Your Legacy As A Discipline-
Your legacy is your vision that endures great discipline over a life time.

Discipline- is defined as; “Training expected to produce a specific character or pattern of behavior, especially training that produces moral or mental improvement”.
Envision your legacy first as a discipline to follow the path of your legacy once it is clear to you. Acknowledging the lessons of a lifetime is easier seen than acted upon. The discipline to focus on a given legacy to leave behind comes after the decision of contribution to the world. As Grand Master Lee once asked, “what are your positive strengths”. We must see our reflection for what it is with no excuses or defensive qualities. We can easily define our weakness that we need to work on as a human in society.

Passion To Legacy –
In short, your legacy should be your passion, not a chore or disliked job.

Limitations live only in our minds. But if we use our imaginations, our possibilities become limitless.”
-Jamie Paolinetti

Choosing your path of Legacy-
Legacies are amazing, they host various shapes and forms, requiring varying levels of effort and disciplined commitment. It begins with a single step on a life journey, such as choosing a sentence or paragraph that defines your legacy
.

Some choose to leave behind great wisdom and life lessons, while others leave behind finical funding for area’s of need in life, some leave supporting causes such as funding cancer research (such as the ATA’s H. U. Lee Foundation) . There are lessons to be learned in each legacy, there is tremendous power in the value of legacy and the place it serves within our society.

Live your Legacy… so that others will follow
S.A.R. Search -Action –Result . Now that we have looked inward and searched for our own legacy, we give action by beginning our journey with three fundamental questions; First, What must I change in my life to live the legacy I envision? Second, What character development and life skills should I add to my personal tool box in life? Third, How will I build relationships with like minded individuals on my path in life? Only by changing your life will you be able to create the legacy you want to leave to change the lives of others to come.

The Changing Life Legacy-
Your legacy may change along your path in life and that is what makes the legacy a unique life changing gift for all to follow. Through discipline and a well thought out Vision, you legacy is manifested into the web of life for others to live and learn from, for many generations to come.

Changing Lives Martial Arts is about creating a Legacy and assisting others to find the ability to “Own Your Legacy”.
