Here at the Changing Lives Karate school in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake, Virginia, we believe in giving you the skills needed to defend yourself in today's increasingly dangerous society. We take a no-nonsense approach to each individual’s training. You will train in a "Karate Safe" reality based environment that will mentally and physically prepare you for any and all real-life situations. We will enhance your self-confidence and increase your mental fortitude. Everybody deserves to feel safe, and our reality-based training will help you feel safer.

Changing Lives Karate is more than just kicking and punching. We believe in changing lives through a dynamic hybrid curriculum that blends old theories with the latest methods of professional Karate training in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake. We offer the highest levels of professional instruction, carefully measuring and monitoring your progress as we help you toward your desired results. This is where we excel. From the start of your first class, you’ll have the opportunity to watch your skills grow in our safe, friendly environment.

As a new student at Changing Lives MA, you will progress through training phases that incorporate every aspect of self-defense and street survival tactics, including:

• Pure dynamic striking
• Multiple levels of strike defense drills
• Knife and other edged weapon defense skills
• Weapon disarming skills
• 360° gun defense drills
• Grabbing
• Holds
• Chokes
• Headlock escapes
• Blunt objects defense skills
• Armed and unarmed ground survival skills

With our reality based self defense training, you will learn the drills and skills necessary to defend, disable and defeat adversaries of greater size and weight. There’s no need to feel defenseless against people who move quicker and hit harder. With repetitive training and a professionally designed curriculum, you can and YOU WILL learn to defend, disable and defeat today’s criminals and attackers.

Choosing the right Karate School is not just about location. In the KARATE business, not all schools are created equal. KARATE instructors generally do not have to answer to a state agency or have specific training, but schools belonging to nationally and internationally recognized organizations—such as the American Taekwondo Association (ATA)—require their Karate instructors to become certified in a rigorous curriculum prior to owning or operating a martial arts school. These certified instructors must keep their national certifications and qualifications up to date.

• Here’s a checklist to go over when searching for the right Karate school.
• Are the school’s CPR certificates up-to-date?
• Is the school an active member of a nationally or internationally recognized association, such as the ATA?
• Does the school have a class management skills certification and a physical skills certification?

Even after checking these things, it’s a good idea to have a state and federal background check done. Not knowing the history of the business and its instructors is scary.
